Russo-Ukrainian War

The Russian invasion into Ukraine launched on February 24, 2022, in a mounting escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014 following the Ukrainian Revolution and the annexation of Crimea.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine, in the Donbas, erupted in April 2014 with the formation of two Russian-backed separatist quasi-states: the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic, where some our sponsored children's fathers gave their lives on the battlefields.

The on-going upheaval has resulted in Europe’s largest refugee crisis since WWII. One-third of Ukrainians have been forced to flee from their homes. The majority of the refugees are women, children and the elderly. Unless exempt from special circumstances, Ukrainian men ages 18--60 are required to remain in defense of their country. Many of our sponsored orphaned children lost their fathers during these earlier regional wars.
